Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), commonly known as EFT tapping, is a form of alternative therapy that combines elements of cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, and acupressure. It involves tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a particular issue or emotion. This practice aims to balance the body’s energy system and alleviate psychological stress and physical pain.
How EFT Tapping Works
- Identify the Issue: Focus on a specific problem or emotion, such as anxiety, stress, or physical pain.
- Measure the Intensity: Rate the intensity of the problem on a scale from 0 to 10.
- Set Up: While tapping on the karate chop point (the side of the hand), repeat a setup statement three times. This statement acknowledges the issue and affirms self-acceptance (e.g., "Even though I have this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself").
- Tapping Sequence: Tap on the following points while repeating a reminder phrase (a brief phrase that keeps the focus on the issue) about the problem:
- Top of the head
- Eyebrow
- Side of the eye
- Under the eye
- Under the nose
- Chin
- Collarbone
- Under the arm
- Measure the Intensity Again: After completing the tapping sequence, rate the intensity of the problem again to see if it has decreased.
