Let’s talk about Vulnerability.
I recently listened to a podcast with Doctor Gabor Maté who does a lot of work with trauma and addiction.
He’s one of my favorite authors and people to listen to. He recently spoke about Vulnerability and how he defines it as…
“Our capacity to be wounded.”
Nobody wants to be wounded, especially as an adult.
Isn’t it funny that we always want to be right?
We don’t want to listen to other people’s opinions, especially today. I’m a Democrat. I’m a Republican. I’m not going to listen to the other side.
But if we’re not Vulnerable, we cannot grow.
He had a beautiful analogy…
If a crab wants to grow, it can’t because it’s in a shell, so it must be Vulnerable to move to a bigger shell. Where do the trees grow? Do they grow at the bottom of their stock where it’s strong? Or do they grow at the top where they’re Vulnerable?
Without Vulnerability there can be no growth.
